Narkanda is a small, picturesque town based in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh. Perched at an altitude of 8884 feet on the Hindustan Tibet road (NH 22), it stands surrounded by the Shivalik ranges of Himalayas. 
Situated at a height of 9000 feet, this town attracts tourists for its ethereal natural beauty and its beautiful apple orchards. Surrounded by tropical forests and majestic hills, this is one place that tourists to Himachal Pradesh should not miss.
Narkanda also has a lake called the Tannu Jabar Lake which is one of the most important tourist attraction here. There also exists a temple near the lake which is a must visit for all tourists and devotees coming here.
Narkanda also has various trekking routes which all adventure-seekers should go for. Narkanda has a beautiful hill called Hatu Nag which one can trek up to. This hill offers a panoramic view of the town below and all adventure lovers travelling to this town should try it. One can also go for skiing during the winters.
Visit Narkanda in the winter months from January to early March as skiing is the only reason some come to Narkanda.
How to Reach
By Air
The nearest airport from Narkanda is the Jubbarhatti Airport, which is located at a distance of 87 km. Jagsons Airlines provides the maximum flights between Shimla and the rest of India, including Chandigarh and Delhi. Indian Airlines, Jet Air and Kingfisher Airlines also provide services to the aiport.
By Rail
The nearest broad gauge railway station is Kalka, at a distance of 152 km from Narkanda. It is well connected with the key cities of India, like Chandigarh, Shimla and Delhi, by regular train services. From there, taxis are easily available for reaching Narkanda. Hiring a taxi will cost you somewhere around Rs 2,200-2,500.
By Road
Shimla forms the major road link near Narkanda. There is no shortage of state run buses from Shimla, to most of the key cities in and around Himachal Pradesh. From Shimla, it's just 2 hrs drive to Narkanda and private taxis can also be hired. A drive from New Delhi will take over 8 hours. You have to follow the NH1 route to Ambala and then NH 22 to Narkanda.
