Satsar Lake,Jammu and Kashmir,India

Satsar Lake, also known as Sat Sar (the seven lakes), is located in the Ganderbal district of Jammu and Kashmir. It is a cluster of seven interconnected alpine lakes and is set in a cascade-like formation. Perched at an elevation of 3600 metres above the sea level, this lake has an expanse of 4 km. This beautiful water body is visited by hordes of tourists throughout the year.
The picturesque landscape surrounding this lake is made of lush green meadows and alpine flowers like potentilla, gentian and blue poppy. During the spring season, rare flowers of Hedysarum are found in abundance along the lakeside.
It is home to brown trout fish and only licensed anglers with prior permission are allowed to fish here. Apart from nature enthusiasts, the place is thronged by adventure seekers as trekking can be enjoyed in the region. Among several trek routes to the lake, travelers prefer the one that commences at Naranag.
Satsar Lake, along with its scenic surroundings, provides a picture-perfect backdrop for photographs. The colourful flowers and verdant meadows surrounding the lake ensure that every snapshot is amazing.
Satsar Lake is accessible only during summers as in the winter season treks leading to this place experience heavy snowfall. In order to cover maximum lakes in the region, people choose to return via Sonamarg, Vishansar Lake and Gadsar Lake.
How to Reach
 By Air
The nearest airport is Srinagar at a distance of 70 kilometres, which is connected to all major airports and flights. Taxis are available from Sonmarg to Srinagar airport on a daily basis.
By Bus
State-run buses from Jammu and Srinagar are available daily. You can also take the special deluxe buses available from Jammu and Srinagar to Sonmarg.
By Train
The nearest train station is Jammu, which is well connected by all the major train routes in the country.
By Road/Self Drive
The distance from Jammu is around 400 kilometres which takes approximately 10 to 12 hours. You will be witness to some spectacular vistas on the way to Sonmarg and cross the famous Jawahar Tunnel, which links the Kashmir Valley with the rest of India.
