Patnitop- Jammu and Kashmir - India

Patnitop, is one of the beautiful hill stations which are famous for picturesque surroundings. It is located in the Udhampur district in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. This beautiful tourist spot is located on the National Highway 1A on the way from Udhampur to Srinagar, which is 112 kilometers from Jammu. This beautiful hill station is situated on a flat top in the Shivalik belt of the Himalayas.
 A land of mountains and fresh air, towering trees and a sparkling river, Patnitop in Jammu Kashmir is a famous hill top location. Not only is it replete with breath taking beauty, it also gives the traveller the thrill and joy of adventure sports in ample. Long walks in the lap of nature sum up the essence of this place, and it provides the opportunity of boundless exploration, away from the loud city life.
The name 'Patnitop' is a distortion of the original name of the place, "Patan Da Talab" meaning "Pond of the Princess". In olden times a pond existed in the meadows and a certain princess often used to bathe there. Some part of the pond still exists near the local youth hostel.
Being only five kilometers in area, it is always easy to walk and explore the untrodden ways, if you wish there are ponies on hire and you can enjoy a horse ride while visiting the nearby spots, most of the place can be approached by car.
You can also visit Sanasar, which is located at a distance of seventeen kilometres from the town of Patnitop. This place is very famous for the paragliding base that is located here. Golf courses are also present in the region, and there are options aplenty for sightseeing and having fun.
Though not as famous as other tourist places of the state, Patnitop, enveloped by thickly wooded forests, is known for its natural charm, climate, pine forests and lush green cover of the pine trees that make the place a far more appealing travel destination than other more famous destinations in the state.
Enveloped by thickly wooded forests, Patnitop offers beautiful picnic spots, peaceful walks and breathtaking views of the mountainscape of the Chenab basin.
How to Reach
By Road
Patnitop is well connected to Jammu (112 km), Katra (37 km), Srinagar (123 km), Pathankot
(101 km) and Udhampur (24 km) through excellent network of Public and Private buses. Taxi or Cab can also be taken direct to Patnitop.
By Train
Nearest railhead is Udhampur. Udhampur is connected to New Delhi through two trains. One of them is Sampark Kranti Express. Jammu Tawi Railway Station is the major railhead nearest to Patnitop. Jammu is connected with excellent numbers of trains from Delhi, Pune, Howrah, Jabalpur, Ajmer.
By Air
Nearest Airport is Jammu (112 km) and Srinagar airport (123 km) is another nearest airport to Patnitop.
