A well known historic town, Belur is located in Hassan district of Karnataka state. The main attraction in Belur is the Chennakesava temple complex dedicated to Chennakeshava. 
Belur is very famous temple town situated in Hassan District of Karnataka State. It is renowned for the grand Hoysala Temple dedicated to Lord Chennakesava, an incarnation of Vishnu. 
It is the best of three Hoysala temples nominated for UNESCO World Heritage Sites (other two being the temples at Halebid & Somnathpur). The Hoysala temples are known for minute & intricate carvings and sculptures with metal like polishing.
Besides the Chennakeshava temple, Belur has other sacred shrines such as Veeranarayana temple, Kappe Chenniga Raya temple and Saumya Nayaki temple.

By Air
The nearest airport is at Bengaluru, about 222 km away. The airport is well connected to Mumbai, Chennai, Delhi and other Indian cities. Taxis can be hired to reach Bengaluru.
By Train
Hassan is the nearest railhead. Trains from New Delhi, Mumbai and other cities of Karnataka halt at Hassan railway station.
By Road
Belur is well connected to other Karnataka cities like Bengaluru, Mangalore and Mysore. Buses from Bengaluru ply regularly to Belur.
