Aihole,Karnataka,India

Aihole is a historical site in Bagalkot District of Karnataka situated on the banks of Malaprabha River. It is being considered for World Heritage Site status by UNESCO.
Aihole, along with Pattadakal, is considered as the cradle for South Indian Temple architecture. There are more than 125 temples in Aihole constructed between 5th and 8th centuries during Badami Chalukya's rule.
The main monuments in Aihole are Durga Temple, Ladkhan Temple, Ravana Pahadi and Archeology Museum. Except Ravana Pahadi, all other sites are located in same compound. 
The place is of archeological importance and one of the oldest civilization hub of India. the temple of Aihole is closely related with the mythological chapter of Hinduism engraving the stories from mythological and religious stories. 
How to Reach
 By Air
There is no airport in Aihole. The nearest airport is in Hubli, which is 106 km away. The other near airport is that of Belgaum, at a distance of almost 189 km. There are regular flights to Hubli and Belgaum from cities like Mumbai and Bangalore. Taxis are available for hire from both the airports.
By Road
Bus facility is available from cities like Badami (44 km) and Pattakal (17 km). Private and state-owned buses from Bangalore also ply on the same route. 
By Train
The nearest railway station is almost 34 km away in Bagalkot. The further journey can be completed by hiring a taxi.
