importance mainly due to its location on the Leh-Manali highway.
The beautiful pastel-colour brown and barren terrain of mountains is
the first thing that will strike you about Sarchu leh ladakh. And a mention
of its beauty goes long back to accounts from the time of the ancient Silk
Route. So, in case you were wondering how popular it is, well, it has
always been a beehive for traders, nomadic tribes and adventure seekers. When visiting the region of Sarchu, one can also indulge in long walks alongside the river Tsarap Chu located close to Sarchu.
Between May and September, Sarchu becomes the starting point for treks to Zanskar in Ladakh. A trip to Sarchu has its own challenges; altitude sickness being the foremost among them. Travelers often ascend from lower altitude to acclimatize to the rarefied atmosphere; traveling from Keylong and traveling up to Sarchu is the preferred route.
