Ethipothala Waterfalls is a beautiful high river cascade in
the state of Andhra Pradesh situated on the Chandravanka River, which
is a tributary of the River Krishna. This seventy feet mountain stream
gushing down the hills originates just about 11 km from Nagarjuna Sagar in
Guntur District of Andhra Pradesh.
The Ethipothala Waterfalls are formed by
the combination of three streams - the Chandra Vanka Vagu, Nakkala Vagu,
and Tummala Vagu, which are all tributaries of River Krishna. The water
falls down from a height of 21 meters, forming a small lake at its foot.
In Telugu, Ethipothala means ‘to lift and pour’. The lake at Ethipothala Waterfalls has a crocodile breeding center that is being managed by the Forest Department of Andhra Pradesh and you get to see these giant beasts at close quarters. After flowing for about three km, the stream reunites with River Krishna.
For the devout, there are two temples at the foot of Ethipothala Waterfalls, dedicated to Ranganatha Swami and Dattathreya Swami. Since these temples are located deep within the valley, one needs to descend a few steps to get to the temples.
The peaceful and soothing atmosphere in which Ethipothala Waterfalls are located, gives the travellers a pleasant experience of their visit.
The Ethipothala Waterfalls are an ideal picnic site to relax
and unwind with friends and family, and to savor the depth of the serenity
offered in these surroundings.
