Morjim Beach is situated on the northern side of the Chapora
River and south of Ashvem Beach. One can see the beautiful Morjim Beach from
the Chapora fort. The part of the beach directly opposite the fort is usually
deserted. A few palm and Casuarinas pines can be found on the beach.
The Morjim Beach is most renowned for the Olive Ridley
turtles that have their nesting ground here, which are an endangered species.
The sight of the tiny hatchlings, turtles and crabs makes your experience at
the beach an unforgettable one. However, touching the eggs or hatchlings is a
punishable offense. During the nesting season from November to March, the beach
is closed to the general public so that the turtles may not be disturbed. In recent years, Morjim has earned the label as 'Little Russia' due to the concentration of Russian tourists visiting and residing in the beach town. Morjim Beach is a quiet and secluded beach unspoilt by tourism.
Kite surfing is another activity popular at this beach because of its shallow depth. The Morjim Beach is also the spot in Goa where one can see a lot of net pullers who make their living from the fish they catch after they dry it and sell it as palm tree fertilizers. The beach is also recommended for viewing sea birds.
A non-commercial beach, the Morjim Beach provides you harmony and tranquility on its silvery sands under the golden rays in midst of the sound of the waves. The serene atmosphere on the shores of the beach is enhanced with the sight of a majestic sunset, when the beach shines with the last bits of rays and the sky becomes a spectacular sight in itself.
If you wish to witness the vast horizon and the largeness of the ocean without being troubled by massive crowds, head to the Morjim beach in Goa.
Private shacks on the shore are equipped with attached restrooms. You may simply rejoice and admire the vastness of the sea by lazily lying inside the shack if you don’t wish to kiss the waves. You may even leave your footprints on the sandy beach while taking a stroll along the length of the beach.
A tiny, bleak beachfront village at the mouth of the Chapora
River, Morjim is the destination of choice for long-staying Russians, many of
whom rent whole houses and settle in for the season. It’s worth a visit to
brush up on your Cyrillic, paddle la Black Sea, wander the riverbanks and
admire the views of Chapora Fort on the opposite side.
