Cherai Beach - Kerala - India

Cherai beach is just at the distance of 30 km from the city of Cochin. Located on the north-end of the Vypeen Island in Kochi, a picturesque Cherai beach is a perfect blend of the sea and the backwaters. 
This lovely beach bordering the Vypeen Island is ideal for swimming. The sea on the Western side and the backwaters on the East give this upcoming tourist destination a uniqueness which can be found only in Kerala. Thick coconut groves and Chinese fishing nets on the waterfront are added attractions.
Cherai Beach is a 15-km long undulating strip of sand and surf. It has the distinction of being one of the cleanest beaches in India and owing its shallow depths, is safe for swimming, surfing and sunbathing. 
The amalgam of clear sand, deep blue water and luscious vegetation creates a wonderful place. In fact, the beach immensely famous among those coming for picnics as well as those who worship the sun. 
Cherai Beach is also called the Golden Beach of Kerala. An apt name – because when the sun sets, the golden glow of the setting sun imbues the beach with its radiance.

The beach can be reached all through the year. However, the monsoon months between June and September must be avoided. The yearly tourist fair which is held in December is also one of the major attractions.

How to Reach
By Train
Those who intend to reach Cherai by train there are a large number of railway stations present in the Ernakulam district. Kochi has two railway stations namely Ernakulam Town and the Ernakulam Junction which connects this part of southern India to the rest of the country. Frequent trains ply between Northern and Southern part of India stop at Ernakulam railway junction.
By Air
The nearest airport to reach Cherai is the Nedumbassery international airport in Kochi. The airport of Kochi is well connected with all the prime cities of India including Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata. The Kochi airport lies at a convenient distance of 22 kms from Cherai. After reaching Kochi one can board a private taxi to reach the center of Cherai.
By Road
Reaching Cherai by road is very convenient as the new Goshree Bridge from the Ernakulam stretches across the backwaters makes of an easy connectivity to the various islands of Vallarpadam, Bolghatty, Vypeen and Mulavukadu. One can also take the road route via Edappally to North Paravur and from there take the road to Cherai. One can board the buses to Cherai from the KSRTC Central Bus Station that lies near the Ernakulam Junction railway station. Several fast and express bus services ply between the Ernakulam to other major cities of Kerala. One can also board a private bus from cities like Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai and Mumbai.
By Ferry and Port
One can also reach Cherai by traversing the water route. Regular boat services are available from the Ernakulum High Court Jetty or the main boat jetty to Vypeen. One also hire a boat service to Cherai from Fort Cochin as there are boats available to reach Vypeen every 15 minutes.
