Dabhosa is a small village located at an altitude of about 1630 feet above sea level. Situated in the Thane district of the Jhawar Taluka, the village of Dabhosa is known for its picturesque setting.
The hassle –free way to get to Dabhosa is to drive there by taking the Jhawar- silvassa road. It is better to start the drive early in the morning to avoid getting held up in traffic. The drive from Mumbai takes about 4 hours and from Nashik takes 2 hours.
The way to the waterfall is from the village. We need to travel by the Silvassa Road to reach the Waterfall.  Ask the locals and they will guide you with directions to the Silvassa Road. The are sign boards put up on trees leading to the waterfall. If you follow them, you can't get lost.
The Dabhosa Waterfalls is formed over Lendi River and cascades down from a height of about 300 feet. Dabhosa waterfall is more beautiful in the rainy season with full flow and lot of greenery around.
The entire depth of the fall can only be witnessed from a flat summit near the fall. Situated along the edge of the mountain, this secluded waterfall surroundings are serene and densely populated.
Dabhosa falls is another place worth visiting, the energy this waterfall displays is astounding.
The whitish gushing water cascading from the rock faces makes this waterfall highly attractive. The surroundings are densely forested and provide a serene location for seclusion seeking travelers. The area is unpolluted and unspoiled without much modern developments and luxuries.
During the monsoon months of June to October the place is ideal for weekend getaways to just spend time listening to different sounds of nature.

Located close to the concrete jungle of Mumbai, the Elephanta Caves lie just off the coast of the Arabian Sea, situated at a 10 km radius from the bustling metropolis. One of the oldest rock cut structures in the country, the Elephanta Caves are the perfect expressions of archaic Indian art associated to the cult of Lord Shiva. Primarily believed to be the abode of Lord Shiva, the Elephanta Caves are an epitome of Hindu Cave culture and are a unique testimony to a bygone civilization. The origins of the Elephanta Caves have been debated time and again, though the sculptures and the art speak volumes about the time from when they could have been popular-6th or the 8th century. The island on which the caves are built was originally known as Gharapuri, and the Portuguese retitled it as Elephanta Island when they discovered a large stone structure of an Elephant on the island. The temple was primarily built for the worship of Lord Shiva and 'Shivaism'. However, it is believed that the Portuguese destroyed many other structures and even used the idols of Hindu Gods within the caves for target practice. Today, the site is a popular tourist hot-spot.
Boat ride per say is not spectacular , expect that you’ll get a fine view of the Mumbai Harbour and the Gate Way of India with a the Taj Mahal Hotel adjacent to it. You may also pass a few massive tanker ships moored and the Bucher’s Island with a whitewashed fort on it.
The boat journey is itself part of the experience, with so many things to see that time flies past. This is one of the few places in Mumbai, where you can see flocks of seagulls at any time of the day!
Once we reached the island, there is a tiny toy train which takes us to the foot of the hills. It costs Rs.10 for the return journey, but takes less than 5 minutes.
A small island just off the coast of the Arabian Sea may be the least expected place for Shopping for souvenirs, but get ready to be pleasantly surprised with the collection of local Elephanta souvenirs that you can take back home.
Once you are on the island, a short walk uphill will bring you to the local flea market. A paradise for women, this little market offers sculptures made of marble, jewelry, clothes, paintings of Lord Shiva and many amazing items of wood work.
If you are collecting Indian artifacts, then there is no better place to shop for souvenirs than the Elephanta Caves.

Entry ticket

In modern times, the Elephanta cave temple has been fully identified as a complex dedicated to Shiva and his various forms, and extensive studies on its iconography are under way.
                                                                                Shiv ling
Trimurti Sadashiva and Maheshmurti, the three heads are said to represent three essential aspects of Shiva - creation, protection, and destruction
Elephanta today bears marks of much use and abuse – from the ravages of time to the bullets of drunken sailors, the temple has lost much of its former glory and stands a mute testimony to the cult of Shiva – Rudra, the Wild God, Pashupati, the God of Wild Animals, the Indus Valley cult figure who was assimilated in Vedic culture and would go on to become one of the most important figures of the Hindu pantheon

How To Reach
By Ferry/Boat
To go to Elephanta Caves, one will have to go to the Gateway of India in Mumbai and take a boat/ferry ride from there. The journey takes one hour by sea. Tickets for a deluxe boat are Rs. 140 for adults and Rs. 90 for children. Economy boats charge Rs. 20 less on both tickets. The first boat leaves at 9:00 AM and the last boat from the island leaves at 5:00 PM.

The Elephanta Caves is a great place to get away from the hustle and bustle of Mumbai metropolis. This trip to the caves will take you back in time, when faith, religion, hard labor, art and romanticism served as a base for everyday living. The Elephanta Caves are a glorious testimony to the aesthetics of a forgotten world and stand as one of the most popular tourist destinations, along with being a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Coracle boat ... reuse is the best idea Indians have ...a man collecting the worshiped lamps and carpets at krishna river

Heard from the guide that this river got a depth upto 700 meters. The color of water is different on places where the depth is more.
Krishna River is the third longest river in India after the Ganges and the Godavari. The river is almost 1,300 km (810 miles) long
The krishna river goes through chain of mountains on both sides with lush greenery, really scenic and a wonderful experience

The water level of the river is shown by the marks at the bottom of the mountain. At few places, I can see huts, proving some people still live here.
The boat stopped. Muddy sand, sharp stones and a quick rain made us to take time to get down. No idea where is the cave. It looks as if we were dropped in the middle of a forest
 Breathtaking view...
I must have burned 500 calories to climb few hundred meters smile emoticon Very slippery. A narrow mud road welcome us. Seems that we have to walk to the other corner of the mountain. Scary but amazing to walk...

Local people

During 12th century A.D. this cave appears to have attained its present name after the famous ascetic Akkamahadevi. It is said that she (Akkamahadevi) hailed from Karnataka, a nearby state.
Though it is said to be natural cave, the outer walls seem to be retouched. This cave is around 150 meters deep and too dark.
The width of the cave gradually decreases while going deep. Lot of bats live here. With the help of mobile lights, we could move step by step. At some places, my SLR stopped working due to no light.
Amazing characteristic of the cave is a natural Rock Arch measuring nearly 200 x 16 x 4 feet that stands without any support
Natural Shiva Linga, A small statue of lord Shiva seen at the end of this cave. It easily take hours to reach the deep end and come out.

Precautions : This place is totally interior place and we have to travel in a deep forest. Animals will also come to this place to drink water. It is not safe to go singly. It is better to go with a group at least 15 to 20 members. Nothing will be available there, so that we have to plan for our meals and medication. If any body wants to go singly, then it is better to go on Karthika pournami day, as some Kannada devotees will go to this place on that day and they will sleep there that night. One more thing is, it is better to start the trek early in the morning, to avoid strain and also animals.

Importance : Skhanda puranam, Sri pathi Panditaradhya charitra and many Shaiva texts described its importance. Allama Prabhu, a great devotee of Lord Shiva, did tapasya here and got solvation. After that he was invited by Lord Basaveswara and taught Shiva dharmas to Veera Shaivas. He advised Akkamahadevi to do tapasya in this place. She also did tapasya here in her last days and left her body. Nrisimha saraswati, the second incarnation of Guru Dattatreya swamy, came here with his desciples and suddenly disappeared here to stop the activities of his avatara. After that he appeared on Krishna river for Navikas. From that time onwards this place also became holy place for Guru Dattatreya followers, this story was described in Guru Charitra.
One will surely get blessings from god and from Guru by visiting this place. This trek will become an memorable incident in your life. These are some photos of Kadalivanam trek.
