Tarkarli beach has the finest white sand beach in the entire
stretch of Konkan beaches. Notwithstanding the proximity to Goa, Tarkarli still
is one of the most popular beaches in southern Konkan. With the Karli
backwaters on one side and the turqoise blue sea on the other, Tarkarli is the
most picturesque destination and Tarkarli is also amongst the most popular
beaches in Maharashtra.
Tarkarli is famous for its long and narrow stretch of beach,
with its pristine water, white sand, and of course Singhudurg, Maharashtra's
popular sea fort. The pristine white beaches shrouded with suru trees are a perfect place to relax, get in touch with nature and eat amazing Malvani food.
Tarkarli is also the only place in Maharashtra where you can scuba dive. The waters are relatively clear around the Sindhudurg fort and though the reefs here aren’t exactly world class, it is not a bad idea to try it out once. Guides and instructors are helpful and patient; if you are keen, you can even enroll for a special certified course.
Just go for a serene walk down the Tarkarli beach early in
the morning or watch spectacular sunsets on the Arabian Sea at evening. You can
also go for snorkeling or scuba diving in crystal clear waters and enjoy
spectacular underwater beauty with coral reefs and colorful sea fishes.
Another attraction of Tarkarli is the backwaters of
Karli river which extend from Tarkarli to Kudal. It is the only place to
experience the backwaters in Maharashtra. The estuary of Karli river is another
scenic spot located near Tarkarli.
